Not a whole lot of stuff to talk about in this book, but this book is infamous in that it was the issue that not only preceded the Age of Apocalypse crossover where the Wolverine series became Weapon X for four issues, but also that it was the issue where Wolverine was pushed over the edge by Sabretooth and Wolverine had popped his third claw through Sabretooth's skull, supposedly killing him. Great fight scene against Sabretooth, but too many fold-out pages in this book that made reading the book a challenge just to pull open each page to see the entire panel. Also, I find it funny that Linus Dorfmann, whom we last saw in a Wolverine issue about 50-60 issues back, suddenly pops back into the comic scene. Honestly, I almost forgot about this small-time character, which is why I find it interesting that it took the crew on Wolverine this long of an issue span to bring him back. Overall, an okay book.

  • WOLVERINE #90:
    "The Dying Game"

    IN THIS ISSUE:

In the X-Mansion, Sabretooth is watching some news footage about the beating and apprehension of Linus Dorfmann by the NYPD. (See early Wolverine issues for more details as to whom Linus Dorfmann is.) It was around that time when Logan returns back to the X-Mansion after his long trip, too. Sabretooth is immediately after Logan's throat, but the only thing holding him back is the force shield that separates Sabretooth from the outside of the room. Logan maintains his cool, and leaves Sabretooth to himself in the cell.

To try to get his memory off of Sabretooth, Logan has a workout and watches the news about the brutal beating of Linus Dorfmann. During the night as he sleeps, Logan couldn't take Sabretooth anymore and heads down to find him.

Down below, Sabretooth tries once again to get past the force field, and after a very excrutiating experience of pain, he is able to get through, but already, Logan was there waiting for him. The two is immediately fighting each other after Sabretooth had broken through. As they fight, Sabretooth continues to psychologocially hurt Logan by saying how Logan would probably never be able to rest knowing that he himself, Sabretooth, is alive because he would go after all the women that Logan likes: Jean Grey, Heather Hudson (aka Vindicator, Shadowcat, and Jubilee). This was too much for Logan, and it pushes him over the edge. At Sabretooth's mercy, Logan pops his outer claws but not his third claw, which would kill Sabretooth by going through his skull. Sabretooth dares him to do it, telling him how he would kill everyone that Logan ever cared for if Logan let him get away. At the end, all we hear is a "SCHLIKT!" sound, and the screen shatters as the Age of Apocalypse begins!
