This book takes place before the story in Wolverine #58-59. Lots of reflecting by Wolverine in this issue, which drags on the book considerably, though there are lots of flashbacks that we can only wonder if they're true or not. It's not a very concrete issue, but it's a liveable one. The cover art seems to hint at this great battle between Shiva and Sabretooth, but this small fight only lasts for less than 2-3 pages. A very average issue.

    "Counting Coup"

    IN THIS ISSUE:

(Note that all these events in this issue takes place before Wolverine #58-59).

In an old Yashida clan cemetery in Tokyo, we see Wolverine meditating as Gambit, Jubilee, and Yukio looks on wondering when Logan would get up, since he's been meditating at Mariko Yashida's grave for a few days.

In his memories, Logan's mind is filled with conflicting images of himself torn between two lovers: Mariko on one side and Silver Fox on the other. He suddenly leaps out and lunges out with claws extended, frightening Jubilee. Logan says he's trying to get a grip, but the beast inside wants to be let free to allow his pain and agony inside to be freed.

Meanwhile, in New York City, Sabretooth is seen at a wrestling match in the audience, having a good time. Little did he know that Shiva would show up to apprehend him. He and Shiva breaks out into a fight.

On a subway, John Wraith is approached by some hoodlums, but a bigger gang of hoodlum boards the train, threatening Wraith and the first gang of hoodlum. Wraith threatens to kill the leader of the second gang with a very lethal bullet, and the gang gets off on the next exit. Wraith then disappears.

Back in Tokyo, we see that Matsuo Tsurayaba had obtained some prosthetic hand to replace one of his lost hand that had five blades of laminated steel on it, capable of slicing through flesh with ease. His ninjas begs him that Tokyo is not a safe place for him to be since Wolverine still had a lust to kill him, but Matsuo refuses to leave.

Down at the cemetary, Sunfire pays them a visit to see what was going on, as well as warning them that the Japanese government were not going to tolerate any type of revenge Wolverine might have in mind on Matsuo. Logan then has a flashback memory of back in Berlin, Germany, in the past when he, Sabretooth, Maverick, and John Wraith were there to obtain the Carbonadum, which helped to create Omega Red.

Back in New York city, Sabretooth manages to pull off the robot's head, but only to have the robot fire an electronic pulse that triggered Sabretooth's memory, back to some scene where he was talking with Logan on the steps of a cabin and threatening to beat him up for seeing Silver Fox. John Wraith then appears, pulls Sabretooth out from his memory flashback, and using an explosive device, destroys the robot.

Back in Tokyo (having fun jumping back and forth? =P), Jubilee and Gambit manages to get Logan into a limo that Sunfire had obtained for their usage. Logan refused to close the sunroof to the limo, allowing himself to be drenched in the rain. He suddenly catches a scent, and leaps out of the limo through the sunroof.

In Matsuo's highrise home, Logan finds Matsuo there. He easily disembowels a few ninjas, and slices off Matsuo's prosthetic hand. Matsuo believed Logan was going to kill him, but Logan instead threatens him that he's going to make him pay for a long time, that each time he returns to Japan, he's going to cut off something different on Matsuo. He knocks out Matsuo with a clawed fist, and leaves the scene, allowing the threat to settle into Matsuo.
