One of the in-between storyline books, this one features the appearance of Shatterstar. I personally like this book simply because Shatterstar is one of my favorite Marvel heroes next to Wolverine. Artwork by Darick Robertson is okay, though Rogue looks much more masculine than she should. This book does a good job in showing the prejudice some has for mutants, and the brand of justice that Shatterstar and Wolverine brings to the Vidkids (the villians in this book) is a type that the Vidkids deserved since they have killed mutants for fun.

  • WOLVERINE #54:
    "Station Identification"

    IN THIS ISSUE:

In South Bronx, New York, a Morlock is attacked by a gang of mutant-hating teenagers known as the Vidkids, whose name comes from the way they film their beating of mutants and then sends the tape in to a news station for broadcast. They chased the Morlock down and beat him to death.

Shatterstar sees this beating on the news, and, donning his Shatterstar suit, plans to hunt down the Vidkids in New York.

At the Xavier mansion, Rogue and Wolverine were having a workout session within the Danger Room fighting dinosaurs and natives. After the workout, Wolverine learns of the Vidkids from Rogue and on the news, and he, too, that night heads out into the streets of New York for the Vidkids. While searching for evidence of the Vidkids in South Bronx, where the last attack was, he and Shatterstar clashes. Shatterstar thinks Wolverine is a Vidkid, and vice versa. Only did Wolverine knock out of Shatterstar's hand one of his double-bladed swords and pinned him to a wall with the third claw poised to strike did Shatterstar realize that the man he was fighting was the "lengendary" Wolverine. Wolverine realizes Shatterstar was a member of X-Force after his senses picked up Cable's scent on Shatterstar's uniform. Together, the two heads for the Morlock's main tunnel.

Near the Brooklyn Bridge, another Morlock is attacked on the street by the Vidkids. They chased her into the Morlock tunnels. They surrounded the Morlock in a corner, only to be attacked by both Wolverine and Shatterstar. Wolverine and Shatterstar attacks the Vidkids, and a big fight breaks out. Only does Shatterstar threatens to kill one of the Vidkids because of how they reflected everything he had been in his entire life (killing for a sport, misery as entertainment) does Wolverine stop him from doing it, and Wolverine figures that the best way to end the fight permanently was to destroy the Vidkids' video cameras. Wolverine and Shatterstar leaves, allowing the authorities to apprehend the Vidkids.
