Yes, I'm still alive. Barely, but still alive. Currently, what runs my life is

a.) work, where I have to prepare for a trip to Japan in 2005 to set up test equipment (never been there, so I'm looking quite forward to it),
b.) school, where I am one design project away from getting my masters of science in mechanical engineering, and
c.) everything else that's non-webpage related.

Anyway, I know this page isn't anywhere near as refined as the more "modern" webpages, but in my defense, I am not a computer programmer, I don't spend any time learning or keeping updated with the latest webpage making language, and most importantly, I think that this site may still be the webpage for all the detail information pertaining to the ongoing Wolverine issues as well as fan artwork galore. Eventually, when I do finish my design project for school (which I've already put off for about two months due in part to work, a.), being insanely busy right now, I'll put more effort into this page, but as of right now, it just isn't going to happen.

However ...

I did make some small changes. First of all, I was notified by someone that the Wolverine Books For Sale section was down. And I thank the person for notifying me because due to my inactivity with this page, there would be no way on Earth that I would've ever known about the problem. This problem has been resolved. (The problem? My webpage hosting provider, 123hostnow.com, upgraded their server, and I guess the ancient .cgi script that runs my Books for Sale section isn't compatible. Moving this script and the writeable ad section files to my local ISP's webspace hosting services fixed this problem for now)

Second, thanks to Google.com's free services, I've reenabled the search function on my webpage using Google.com's powerful search engine. So, you can finally use the search feature again on my page after a 2-3 year hiatus.

Anyway, I'll write more later during my webpage update in late September. But in the meantime, my last comment for now.

Today marks the 3rd anniversary for the tragedy that struck the victims of the 9/11 terrorist acts in New York, Washington D.C., and Pennsylvania. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family members of those victims. 9/11/01 was a dark chapter in our nation's history, and it is imperative that we never forget what happened that day. Only through learning from our pain and mistakes that this event inflicted and exposed can we ensure that we and our children will have a brighter, safer future.

Before I get grilled about my inept ability to update my page, let's just say that my same excuse still holds true as before: I am usually at work for about 12 hours total (which includes 2 hours total of commuting). Throw in a graduate class two days a week with another 2 days of having to do homework, and then three design projects that I'm in charge of at work, and then on the weekends, a never-ending rush to get our second bathroom remodeled in time for my sister's wedding in July, and you can see that I have absolutly no time whatsoever on a typical week. (That's probably why I'm still single ... the day's too short for me). Hey, gotta give up something to save up for that down payment towards a home or condo in about two years, y'know. :-)

So how did I manage to get this page updated this week? I left the painting up to my dad for the bathroom, and took an entire day off just to work on this page. And granted that my "current issue" is still one issue behind the actual "current issue", it's an update nevertheless.

And before I get nagged about it again: Yes, I do know that Origin came out. Yes, I do know that it tells the definitive origins for ol' Canucklehead. Yes, I do know his real name is James Howlett. And yes, I've finally managed to update this *itty bitty information* into the "Facts about Wolverine" and "Wolverine Origin" section. Will I be writing a review of the entire 6-part "Origin" series? Perhaps. What is certain is that a summary of the 6-part Origin series in its entirety will have to be written for the "Wolverine Origin" section, and when I will get around to doing that ... well, let's just say my time table right now has that slated after July at the earliest. So, for those of you who keep wondering what the story is behind the Origin series: go buy it! You don't need to shell out the $60 to get the entire "Origin" series; Marvel has a trade paperback that they had released for under $15 which has all six issues retold in one single book. It's a deal, and if you want to know Wolverine's definitive origin without having to shell out an arm and a leg for the original comic books, get the trade paperback at your local comic book store, or even Amazon.com has it in stock.

Anyway, someone asked what ever happened to my full-cover scans of each comic book that I've wrote reviews from. In the past, I had a clickable link on each of the comic book review within the "Issue Database" to a bigger scanned image of the comic book. This was at the time when my page was spanning over 3 different free web hosting services. And eventually, I ran out of space, for obvious reasons (free web hosting service = not a lot of webspace). Well, at some request from fans who would like to see that put back, I'm slowly rescanning all my comic book cover images with my current scanner, whose quality exceeds that of my old scanner (4800 dpi versus 600 dpi) and am slowly restoring that feature. Therefore, the more recent issues do have clickable links to bigger cover scans, approximately 500 x 780 dpi in size, for you to view. And before some of you start complaining about why I have to deface the image by putting my website's link on the bottom: the reason I do this is because a lot of people have the tendancy to borrow scanned images from other people's websites for either their own websites or for "selling my book" purposes (like on Ebay, for example). By having my link down there, this is my "branding" to show that the image was scanned by me and placed on my site for me to use. Anyone else is free to use them, but the link must be attached onto the picture. It's that simple.

I will write more soon ... gotta give my opinion on the X2 movie which I finally saw after it had been released about 5 weeks ago. :-P

The year 2002 has come and passed in the blink of an eye. Can you believe that it's 2003 already? And even more surprising: the fact that I haven't wrote any new notes in over 9 months??

Since the last I wrote a message here, nothing major has changed in my life. Once again, sounding like a broken record, I have to say that work is what's consumed most of my time now. Since I absolutely hate the I-405 commute through the Sepulveda pass (fellow SoCal folks will know exactly what I'm talking about), I usually get to work around 7am and then leave work at around 7pm (and no, I really don't work that many hours because I'd never get recognized for that many hours to begin with as a salaried employee). That way, I can beat the morning traffic, and wait for the evening traffic to clear out as much as possible. It takes me approximately an hour each way to and from work, so if you do the math, work + commute = 14 hours of my day right there. Tack on about 5-6 hours of sleep, and that leaves me with about 4 hours of free time. Then take about 1/2 hour of that for me to get prepared for work in the morning, and that leaves me with only 3-1/2 hours of free time, of which an hour of that is taken up by dinner. So what do I have to do with 2-1/2 hours? If I have class (which I still do as a graduate student), I could be doing homework. If I don't have homework, then I'd either be replying to my emails or playing video games. So, as you can see, the only real free time for me to do anything webpage-related is during the weekends, or when I'm sitting at work waiting for traffic to lighten up, which is what I'm doing right now.

UCLA grad school isn't getting any worse nor is it getting any better. Granted I'm only taking one class per quarter at UCLA, but it seems like so much more than that because of work. So far, I'm taking #5 of 9 classes right now ... am taking Convective Heat Transfer theory this quarter with my advisor as the professor of the class ... which means that by now, I really should have an idea as to whether I want to pursue the thesis plan or the written/oral final test plan in order to qualify for a masters degree in Mechanical Engineering. And guess what? I still have no idea what I want to do. I absolutely hate oral exams because I've noticed that my train of thought moves so much faster than me speaking, which means half the time, the words coming out of my mouth when I'm under pressure almost sounds like babbling. But, I also hate doing research: I love design work, which is what I'm doing here at work, but to do research involves a huge amount of time and resources, of which both I am in very short supply of. *sigh* At this rate, I think I'm going to wait until the very last minute when the school of engineering at UCLA sends me that letter telling me that I'd better decide soon with my 3-year limit for grad school coming up in about 1-1/2 years.

Personal life? Non-existant. I don't think I'm putting any effort into it. Plus I still haven't met the right woman in my life yet, which by now (at age 25) is starting to make me concern. What's that thing about your biological clock ticking? *LOL* Oh well, there's still time since my cousin and my dad were late to get married too. I do get out once in awhile to hang out with friends ... Vegas and camping trips with my close friends, and beach volleyball Wednesdays with my coworkers at nearby Manhattan or Hermosa Beach, but other than that ...

So also within that 9 month period, I took a week trip to New York City to visit relatives. I had not been to New York City in over 8 years, so it was definitely nice to see them and my cousins so much more mature than what I had remembered them as being. And of course, I made the "pilgrimage" to Ground Zero, the site of the World Trade Center terrorist attack, which is arguably one of, if not, the most tragic historical event to ever happen to us here in the United States. By the time I visited the site, Ground Zero was pretty much already all cleaned up, with the only thing remaining was a big hole in the ground which was the foundation of what was once the World Trade Center towers. What had the most emotional impact, I felt, was a memorial that was set up nearby which had items that were digged out from the WTC rubble and placed on a chain-linked fence. It was amazing how looking at these items ... very common everyday items like stuffed animals, T-shirts, personal items, etc. ... mixed in with thousands of notes of symphathy written by people all over the world who had visited this site ... can have such an enormous emotional impact. Ordinary lives were shattered on that dark day, and this makeshift memorial was a reminder that these people weren't soldiers of any type, but rather just ordinary people going to work like any other normal people would be doing on a routine day. There was also another makeshift memorial on the wall of a nearby vacated building where firefighters from all over the country had left their fire station's patch as a way of honoring those brave men and women of the NYPD and FDNY whose lives were lost as they tried to do their job to save the innocent victims trapped or fleeing the WTC buildings. This site was another very emotionally-charged place. Eventually, I'll post some of these photos up on the web for public viewing if you haven't seen similar pictures yet on the Internet.

With that said ...

I've bought a whole crapload of new stuff over that 9-month period which helped me to get that one huge update in December after a 7-month hiatus of updating the webpage. First off, right before I left for my trip to NYC, I bought a new HP laptop computer. Powered by an Intel P3-1.2Ghz processor, 256MB SDRAM, 15" TFT LCD monitor, and a DVD/CD-RW combo, this computer was something that will help me out a lot. Why? First, I've always talked about buying one, and second, being on vacation for 10 days, I knew that I could get some really old fan fictions encoded, some dating as far back as 2001. So, during this trip, I was able to encode about 20 fan fictions ... all these fan fiction backlog that I had yet to encode to fit my webpage's design. That was a tremendous load off my back to finish encoding those fan fictions, and again, to those writers, I greatly appreciate your patience and I apologize for the huge delay since everything on my webpage is "hand-crafted" and barely anything is fully-automated.

Next, around the October time-frame, I bought a brand new scanner to replace my aging 300x600 24-bit Mustek scanner which had served me faithfully for 6 years. I bought a new Microtech Scantek 5900 scanner, which has a far-superior 48-bit quality and a 2400x4800 dpi resolution through a USB2.0 feed. This scanner enables me to scan much more high-quality scanned images to post on the web. Although I do use a higher compression ratio for my JPG files that do diminish the quality of the picture as a tradeoff for faster download speed, the scanned image quality is much more better than before.

A few weeks later, I bought a new Creative Labs Audigy 2 soundcard. The quality of the sound from this soundcard, when compared to my old Creative Labs PCI128 sound card, is like night and day: I can hear so much more sound from the same mp3 file on the new Audigy 2 soundcard over my old PCI128 sound card.

Finally, right after Thanksgiving, I bought some new programs for my computer, which included Pinnacle Studio software. This software enables me to create, edit, and burn my own VCD and DVD files from mpeg files that I can record off of my TV capture card. Most importantly, however is that this program will allow me to create short mpeg, Quicktime qtw, Windows AVI, or Realtime .ra files, and I can adjust the sound level of the files to a louder setting. Unfortunately, due to either the program itself or the speed of my computer not being "fast" enough for this program (despite my computer having a 1Ghz Celeron processor and the minimum for this program being 500Mhz), I have problems where the sound clips in my movie files cutting out for a few seconds to a few minutes at a time for no apparent reason. This has happened almost every single time, but in all cases, my "movies" were about 30 minutes long, which meant my computer will take about 1-1/2 hours to compile and burn an edited movie to a VCD, DVD, or a mpeg file. I have yet to try making small 10-30 second clips, but I think for those instances, it will be okay.

So what does this mean? Coupled with my webserver offering unlimited bandwidth and webspace, I do hope to start tinkering with creating my own downloadable sound files, and creating short X-Men cartoon snippets from both the original X-Men animated series (back when it was on Fox Kids TV) and the current X-Men: Evolution cartoon and post them as downloadable files off of my website. This is something that I've noticed is not available anywhere among other Wolverine or most X-Men-related webpages, so I think this should give you fans more of an incentive to visit my site, despite my sporatic updates nowadays. Granted, I don't profit in any form or another on this webpage, and I haven't earned a single penny for the hundreds of hours that I've spent on developing this "crude, amateur" webpage (remember, I'm not a computer programmer, so I don't know a thing about creating Flash media or making a webpage "move" ... I just try to offer as much information and downloadable pictures of Wolverine as possible), but hey, it's my expensive hobby at this point, and I've got to have some way of improving the webpage even more now that v2.0 of this webpage is still heavily stalled.

Therefore, if there are any certain clips from either X-Men cartoons that you'd like to see posted, please let me know what episode name it is and what scene it is. Granted, it will probably take a few months, if not a year, to fulfill your request, because unfortunately, I'm still on dial-up internet connection and have not made the switch yet to broadband cable (due to some CGI compatibility issues with my new current webpage server, who uses an NT-based server, that right now is running fine on my old webpage server/ISP provider), but hey, at least it gives me an idea as to what video clips you'd like to see on this page. Please note that it must be a scene that Wolverine is in and has a speaking role; in another words, I don't want to be posting scenes of, say, Jean Grey talking, but with Wolverine in the background saying or doing absolutely nothing. This is a Wolverine page, after all, not a X-Men page, and I don't intend on posting whole cartoon episodes on the web because that's a huge waste of my time to create and my server's webspace.

So anyway, I hope to commit myself to working a bit more on this webpage, and yes, I still need to update the "Wolverine Facts" and "Wolverine Origins" section to reflect the Origins series that has been written and is already out that defines Wolverine's "true" origin, so check back occasionally for new update and material on this page!

Ok, I think I owe everyone an explanation in regards to my 3 month hiatus of not working on the webpage. Basically, this is what I have been up to the last three months:

a.) Work. It's my source of income. Period. Without work, I can't save up for the bigger and better things in life, and without work, I wouldn't be able to pay for my own domain name and web hosting services which will enable me to expand this page tenfolds in the future. I've been assigned to various projects and having to travel around the Southland and to the Gulf Coast that it definitely eats up the majority of my time.

b.) Grad school @ UCLA. Yeah, I still don't know what I'm planning on doing in grad school, but the opportunity had presented itself for me to go to grad school, and since my employer is paying for my tuition cost at school, this was an opportunity I would not (and I hope other people can attest to) pass up on. Yes, I am taking one class per quarter ... in fact, I have a final in about two weeks for my Boiling and Condensation graduate class ... but throw in this equation with full-time work and you've got a lot of work on your hand.

c.) Repiping my home with copper pipes. This is the main reason why this page has not been updated since December. It was after my last update that I started attacking this three-month long project of replacing all our 25-yr old galvanized steel pipes with copper pipes. For most of you homeowners who are familiar with galvanized steel pipes, over time, rust will build up inside. And for us, it all began with a leaky pipe in our garage in October. That pipe was replaced, and noticing the rest of our hot water pipes, we decided to repipe the garage portion of the pipes. This was around November. It was an easy enough job. However, installing these now-open pipes increased the water pressure throughout the house, which was supposed to happen ... *but* ... in the process, it knocked off some rust which clogged the mixer valve on one of our shower stalls. This mixer valve is about 35 years old ... about the age of the home. It is not possible to disassemble it like valves are today. This meant having to cut open the wall to replace the valve. *However*, the pipes that went to this valve were all galvanized steel, which meant that we'd have to cut them, which meant we'd have to replace the entire stretch of pipes that fed into the valve. To make this long story short, we to knock open the walls and repipe the entire house with Type L copper tube. This ongoing project started in mid-December, and it had consumed every single one of my weekends from then until just this past weekend, when my dad and I finally finished replacing all the steel pipes with copper. Every single weekend, our local Home Depot became my second home, as I was armed with my trusty Discover credit card and a list of piping parts that I would be needing to purchase for that particular weekend's project portion. And since I figured I lived at home rent-free, I would provide the cost and labor on the entire project, which cost me a tad under $1000 and 10 endless weekends. Of course our next step is to repatch up the walls and repaint it ... but as most people who has done home improvement work knows, once you've opened up a can of worms, everything else falls into place. Therefore, the next several months will most likely involve repatching up the walls, reflooring one of our bathroom with floor tiles, and now remodeling the entire kitchen (cabinet surfacing, floor tiles) and then some.

So, these three reasons are the main reasons why this page has not been updated recently. Will this page be "retired"? Heck no! I've spent too much time in the past accumulating the amount of information, data, and pictures, and to throw that all away is not my idea of time well spent. And, as many of you must have found out by now, I have my own domain, and this page is now located at http://wolverine.x-knights.com/. I pay about $10/mo for unlimited webspace, bandwidth, and transfer, which means this page has nearly unlimitless growth and expansion potential. Coupled with the fact that I bought another TV card to replace my old one that had burnt out from my old motherboard, somewhere down the line, I can start adding Wolverine video clips to my website from the X-Men and X-Men: Evolution cartoon series. (Oh, and if you're wondering: my old existing link, http://www.thevine.net/~falcon/comics/wolverine.html, will remain active for the unforseeable future as a "mirror" site to my main X-Knights link.)

(Note: if you know of a good affordable video creating program ... preferably free on the net if possible or at least low cost ... that can allow me to save files in either .avi, .qtw, or .mpeg file format, please let me know via email. The program that came with my TV card has one glaring problem with it: it records at a volume level that's way too low ... and I can't edit the videos that it creates to make the sound louder or change the resolution of the videos that it creates ... so I'm looking for a program which would enable me to modify these .mpeg files that it creates and save them into other file formats.)

Therefore, I sincerely apologize to all the talented fan artists and creative fan fiction writers for not posting their material up sooner ... my main drag right now is to have to read and review the last four issues of Wolverine that has been published, which after finals week at school (two weeks from today), I hope to have done.

Finally, before I get asked again: I don't plan on reviewing any issues of Origins until the entire 6-pt series has been published. The reason is that my preference is to review all 6 issues and rework the "Wolverine Origins" section of the page to reflect the definitive origins for Wolverine. That way, once all 6 issues has been released, we'll all know for certain what exactly is the whole story behind his origins, and I won't have to continuously update the "Wolverine Origins" section every month just to reflect any new changes that may have occurred to his origins from the previous month's issue.

FINALLY, I get an update done after 4 months of hiatus. Wow, that's a record for me, isn't it? Anyway, as you've read in the last two "notes" that I had posted up, I have had computer trouble. So tally it up, this is what had died on my old computer:

  • Abit BX6v2.0 motherboard
  • Intel Pentium III-700Mhz Slot 1 CPU
  • Intel Celeron-400Mhz Slot 1 CPU (motherboard shorted this chip out)
  • Western Digital 30GB hard drive
  • STB NvidiaTNT 16MB video card
  • USR 56K ISA modem
  • 44X generic CD-ROM
  • 250W power supply

As you can see, this was quite a loss for me. It basically meant me having to "buy" a new computer instead of getting that laptop I was saving for. What hurt was losing my 30GB hard drive because it contained all my emails from July on (my last backup was on July '01), so I lost all of my contacts, fan fictions, etc. from July on. Arg. What did survive?

  • 4x4x24 Iomega ZipCD rewriter
  • IBM 6.4GB hard drive
  • 384MB RAM (2-64MB PC-133Mhz SDRAM, 2-128MB PC-133Mhz SDRAM)
  • SCSI card for scanner
  • Creative Labs Sound Blaster PCI128 sound card

My IBM 6.4GB hard drive was the important one because that one contained all of my webpage HTML, picture files, and v2.0 of Wolverine's Realm on it. It's a darn good thing this hard drive didn't perish like everything else did! So, what I think happened is that when my power supply went bad, it sent unregulated power to any component that was hooked up to it, which meant anything that had been powered up at that time got fried. My 6.4GB hard drive was in power saver mode (it's my alt. hard drive), which is the only reason that I can think of it not perishing like my 30GB hard drive. So, after $650 worth of upgrade (and yes, I probably overpaid in putting together a new system), this is now what I am running off of:

  • Tyan Trinity 400 motherboard
  • Intel Celeron 1.0Ghz Socket 370 CPU
  • 512MB SDRAM (2-128MB annd 1-256MB PC-133Mhz SDRAM)
  • 46.4GB total HD space (40.0GB Maxtor + 6.4GB IBM)
  • ATI 32MB Rage Fury Pro/Xpert video card
  • 16X DVD / 40X generic DVD-ROM
  • 4x4x24 Iomega ZipCD rewriter
  • Diamond SupraMax 56K PCI modem
  • Creative Labs Sound Blaster PCI128 sound card
  • 250W power supply

For you computer "junkies": the reason I bought the Trinity 400 motherboard was because it was the only one on the market which had still supported Slot 1 CPUs. I had been under the assumption that my Celeron 400Mhz CPU was fine, but I didn't know that by hooking it up to my old motherboard, my Celeron 400Mhz CPU had gotten destroyed. So, it was a good thing that the Trinity 400 motherboard also had a slot for Socket 370 CPUs, and I went with the Celeron 1.0Ghz Socket 370 CPU. I couldn't bring myself to pay the extra $40 just to have a Pentium III-1.0Ghz CPU since I'm not a heavy gamer, and 1.0Ghz is already overkill for my needs.

Anyway, so my computer is finally 99% all the way up and running again. Now for the more urgent matter.

At last check, my account on my ISP, where the bulk of this webpage is stored, has under 1MB of storage space left. Therefore, I think that at this point, I am in search of a web hosting service. (As a temporary fix, I may move my 5MB of fan fictions to a free web hosting server for the time being, even if that means having those stupid advertisement pop-up banners.) If it is possible for a web hosting service to host over 100MB of material for under $10.00/mo, that's what I'm aiming for. I have surfed around and found a few that meets this criteria, but since I'm not too familiar with their service, I am not positively sure who's good and who's not. What my needs are is basically: at least 100MB of webspace (150MB or more is ideal), CGI capabilities, a good amount of data transfer allotment per month, and simple access for me to upload webpage materials. I do not need more than 1 email address, so the number of email address a server may provide is not important to me. Does anyone know of any decent web hosting service who may meet my criteria? Remember, this is just a hobby page, not a page to make money on, so I really don't want to spend too much money on a part time hobby of mine just to have my webpage "hosted" by someone. (Of course, if you own a web hosting service or have a pretty big web hosting account, and you're feeling very gracious in this holiday season, I would be forever gracious to you as well ... *hint hint* :) )

Second, I will need my own domain name pretty soon as a result. I've been leaning towards getting a generic domain name: that is, a name not related to this website but a name that I would pick for my own usage. However, I would like to hear via email of any possible domain names that you think would be good for this website to use. Most of the good ones (eg. www.weaponx.com, www.wolverine.com, etc.) are obviously taken already, so it would have to be something that would fit this website nicely but not lame in its name (and most definitely not something that contains an insane number of characters in its name, like www.wolverinerealmhomeofwolverine.com). Any suggestions?

    November 4th, 2001

So, the prognosis seems to be this: my computer ... my *good* computer, seemed to have suffered a power surge, which is now proving to be a very costly surge: it cost me a motherboard, *TWO* Intel CPU's, one CD-ROM, a video card, and the item that hurts the most: my 30.0GB hard drive, which is my *main* hard drive. I honestly don't know how this happened, but right now, it appears that this fix is going to cost me some good $$$ ... money I had been planning on using on a laptop ... and instead it's now being used just to get my computer back up and running again with the parts that I need to buy to put it together again. Therefore, any hopes for an update this weekend has been dashed with this disasterous result. (I've spent $500 already on assorted parts just to get it running again, and this hasn't even included a new CPU yet which I had thought I wouldn't need to do!) And here's the most important news:

Any fan fictions sent after July 31st has been lost. If you had sent me a fan fiction after July 31st but before October 31st, please resubmit because it has now been destroyed since my 30.0GB is not powering up and/or bootable anymore.

If you had submitted a fan artwork between this period, don't fret because I had been working on an update last week, and the fan artwork section was the only section I had gotten done, and luckily, everything on that update is saved on my other hard drive which had survived this disasterous "power surge".

Please be patient, as it now appears that it'll take me at least one more week to get everything on my computer back up and running again. *sigh*

I was attempting to make an update this week ... HOWEVER, I think my motherboard on my primary computer just crapped out on me. My symptom? Basically, the computer suddenly shut itself off. So, I turned off the power supply and turned it back on. The computer started and ran fine. However, after a few minutes, the computer suddenly shut down, but only after the CD-ROM tray suddenly popped out and the fan on the power supply can be heard running suddenly fast. Next thing I knew, the computer was shut off, and I could smell a burnt smell. I took apart the power supply, and found that it had blown a fuse. *SO*, I had assumed the power supply was bad. This was all yesterday, Halloween, Oct 31st.

So, after work today, I went by Fry's Electronics to pick up a new power supply: a 250W power supply to replace the original 250W power supply. I've installed it, and turned on the computer. Nothing. What gives? No hard drive powering up, no nothing. When I push the "power" button on my casing, the LED lights to indicate that the computer is on does blink momentarily, but it doesn't turn on. Inside, I can see that the fans that I have on the computer momentarily starts turning, but it doesn't turn.

So, my friends, if any of you are computer experts: does this mean my motherboard is most likely shot? I know the power supply can't be bad because I know the motherboard is getting power to it, but right now, my computer just won't turn on. (My motherboard is an Abit BX6 v2.0, and I'm running a P3-700Mhz chip with a total of 384MB of RAM in it. I have not made any modifications to it since two months ago when I added 256MB more RAM into it).

If anyone can help me out with this problem, I would greatly appreciate it since I want to get that computer back up and running so that I can do my updates that I badly need for that page. (And if you're wondering how I can even write this and post it up? I'm running my old Packard Bell P100Mhz computer right now, which compared to the P3-700Mhz is a hog ... but at least it's an internet connection.

PLEASE HELP ME IF YOU CAN WITH MY COMPUTER PROBLEM!

Sorry for the hiatus the last few weeks. After my last update, as I had pointed out, I was away in Mississippi on business, and after I came back, I was sent back down to Mississippi again, right after the Labor Day weekend, to complete my portion of the systems integration task. I was scheduled to come back on the 12th, but then the tragedy struck the World Trade Center, Pentagon, and the situation in Pennsylvania, so I was stranded in Mississippi until yesterday, Sunday, the 16th of September. What happened in those places was an extremely sad affair for our nation, and it affected all of us profoundly. It did give me a bigger sense of purpose since I do work for a defense contractor, so I do have a strong sense of doing something right for the country in this time of need. My heart and prayers goes out to all the innocent victims and their families who were profoundly affected by this unimaginable tragedy.

I know that this month is a big month for us Wolverine fans, especially with Origins #1 already out. Since I just got back this week, I've really been out of the loop with what has been going on in the Wolverine universe, being gone for three of the last four weeks. I do plan on picking up my comics this week, and I will try to do an update by this weekend. Since I start graduate school as well next week (just taking one class, though, since I will still be working in the meantime), I know that I'll be looking at a tougher schedule for the weeks coming, so an update for this weekend is a most-likely scenario.

Hiya, fellow Wolverine fans! Thought this page was not going to be updated? Well, I finally got my act together and finally put together an update after a 3-month hiatus. WAHOO!

In all seriousness, a major part of the reason that I didn't update the page was because of work. When your time has been allocated towards work, sleep, commuting, eating, and some exercising to tone up and keep that stomach relatively flat (thanks to all the eating out at work ...), free time towards maintaining this webpage went out the window. And to make matters worse, I find that the longer I procrastinate, the more work I end up with having to update the page with. For example: take one look at this recent update's fan gallery, and you'll see that I have about 20 new images. That's what I get for not updating the page on a regular basis!

Some of you may have the impression that I'm getting ... well ... tired of this webpage. In all honesty: yes, it is a little tiresome. However, this is a project that has been ongoing ever since 1996, which means that for me to suddenly stop and dump about 5-1/2 years of work down the drain, in my opinion, would be ludicrous. Plus, the desire to make this page one of the most informative and fan-based Wolverine websites around on the web is still there, and that's what primarily drives me to continue on with this ongoing webpage project. A good friend of mine, Chris Lawrence III, who ran Hulk: Earth's Mightiest Mortal website, had decided after 5 years of running his site to hang it up due to family obligations. He doesn't have the luxury to continue the page, with a career, a family, and a new baby to worry about. Me, I'm not to that point yet ... still considering myself to be FOC: (F)resh (O)ut of (C)ollege, so for now, I don't forsee my page heading that direction in the near future. It's hard to have one person maintain a Wolverine webpage / database that contains almost 70MB of nothing but Wolverine related item spanning over three separate accounts, and that's basically my excuse for untimely updates ... for the time being.

Speaking of which ... my main ISP, where this page is stored, is running fast out of space. I'm down to about 1.5MB left out of 20MB for this home server (the other 50MB, mainly graphics and sound files, now exist on a separate free server for the time being). So, I may have to start looking for a permanent home for this webpage. If anyone knows of a good web hosting company with a good, reliable connection speed, at least 100MB of storage space, and is under $20/month, please let me know as I think I'm getting to the point where I'm going to have to start paying for webspace and get my own domain name for this website, all under my expense.

Finally, work ... it's been keeping me busy. I'll be down in Forest, Mississippi, again this year, starting on the 20th of August and lasting for about a week and a half, to oversee the installation and setup of two new thermal test carts. So for that time frame, I won't be able to reply to any emails.

Stay true, Wolverine fans, and be looking for my rant (or praise) in regards to the upcoming Wolverine: Origins book soon ... the book which'll define Wolverine's true history!

I didn't realize that all my forwarding email accounts were down (which would explain the lack of emails the last three weeks while I've been at work ...), but I hope to have this issue resolved tomorrow, February 23rd. If you have any comments, use the feedback form. Thanks!

Well, so here it is ... February 5th. I'm starting work later on today (haven't gone to bed yet ... figured I'll probably have so many butterflies tomorrow that 5 hours of sleep should be sufficient for me) at Raytheon Systems in El Segundo, CA, as a test engineer. Basically, I'll be designing test equipment to test the various projects that this defense contractor make over there. Four reasons why I wanted \ to work for this company:

a.) they're the most flexible for me if I am planning on going to grad school this Fall, which I still am,

b.) they're the most closest to my home (40 miles ... still closer than the other two),

c.) their offer was the best of the three, and

d.) there's a lot of interesting opportunities at this company that I think will have a lot of interesting challenges to present to me.

I wish I had gotten some more stuff done during this 6-week break for me. So far, the things that I did get done is installing the lamp post outside in our yard, helping my mom clean the range hood, installed fog lamps on my car ... and that's about it. I tried to finish Final Fantasy 7 on my computer (yes, I'm slow, but I had been working and schooling for the last 3 years), but I still haven't finished it because I'm trying to do everything in the game to enjoy it the most. And most disappointingly: I didn't get a lot of stuff done on this page. I wish I did ... every time I see that Wizard would list my site in their recommended sites, it makes me think that I should've put some more effort in v2.0 of this page. Hopefully, even though I'll be working, I'll still continue work on v2.0 of this page while still working on updating this page on a monthly basis. :-) This page is now 5 years old as of yesterday, 2/4, so an update for this page was the most appropriate birthday presnet for the page in my opinion.

Wish me luck at work tomorrow!

I was just a *tad* late in putting up a poll this month because, frankly, I had a "polling question" mind block. Anyway, this new poll will be in place through January.

    Happy holidays to all!

    December 14, 2000

Miss me? :-) Yeah, I'm still alive and around. I've just been extremely tied up with school, job, job hunting, graduate school application, and the likes since my last message here. Basically, what's happened since my last message is that my cousin got married in early November; then on Thanksgiving weekend, my family and I went up to visit Zion National Park in Utah (my 3rd trip to Utah this year ... yeah, I do love that area too much now) and did some sightseeing and hiking there; then two weeks after that, I had onsite job interviews with Honeywells Engine Division in Torrance, CA, and Raytheon systems in El Segundo, CA. Basically, I have to weigh in my decisions as to which company has made offers to me (Honeywell, Raytheon, or ExxonMobil), and I think the determining factor as to whom I'll be working for will depend not on the salary (well, to some extent, a little bit ...) and benefits (most companies offer similar benefit plans anyway), but which one will be the most flexible for me to work at when (and if) I do start graduate school in Fall of 2001, and which one offers the most opportunities from a short-term (4-5 year) point of view. Basically, what I'm calling my employment here is a "long-term vacation from school" since my goal is still to go to graduate school to get a M.S. in my field.

Currently, this week is finals week for me at UCLA ... my last final ever as an undergraduate student! Pressure is on me, though, as I need to obtain a 3.31 (B+) average this quarter in order to stay qualified for UCLA's school of engineering ESAP program. This program basically allows undergrad engineering students at UCLA to automatically be accepted into the school's graduate program without having to take the GRE (graduate examination) nor I have to obtain letters of recommendations from three references. All I would have to do is maintain a 3.5 GPA for the classes pertaining to my major, and right now, I have a 3.541 average. By my calculations, I need to maintain a 3.31 GPA this quarter to keep that GPA above 3.5. So far, I've had two finals come and gone, and I don't feel especially confident that I've achieved that. I have one more final exam tomorrow (statistical probability), and I think that final's going to make or break my chances of making into the grad school at UCLA through the "back door" method, as I've liked to call it now.

So, as you can see, I've got a lot of things going on with my life, which is why the updates have been sporatic. However, once this final exam week is over, I'm planning on taking 1-1/2 months off before I start work. And during this timespan, I do plan on starting work on v2.0 of Wolverine's Realm again (yes, that project ...), as well as encoding about a dozen fan fictions or so that I haven't had the time to encode yet. (My apologies to all these talented fan fiction writers for not posting it up for so many months ...) And heck, with a FT job, I'll probably start looking into obtaining my own domain address as well. :-)

By the way: a new December poll will be put up on December 16th, and I will have this poll all the way through the end of January. Sorry for the delay.

I apologize for the very late update this month. I just started school again, and with homework, having to run an organization on campus, job hunting for a full-time position, looking into grad school, and working part time as a math tutor, I just haven't had the time to properly sit down to work on the page. Hence, this is why my last update took so long to get to.

I made some really minor upgrades to the page that you won't really notice very well:

First, the voting poll: like in the past, I will void any votes that were submitted by the same person consecutively. In another words: for those of you who want to "stuff the box" by hitting the "submit" button a few times, your vote will be voided. You are free to vote again in the poll (even though I don't recommend it for a better polling accuracy), but you may not vote on consecutive ballots. I'm tracking consecutive voting by IP addresses, so if I see the same IP address in consecutive ballots, the vote will be nullified.

Second, for those of you who like using the Wolverine classified ads section of my page: I've reprogrammed the script so that you can include a link to your picture. However, your picture must be uploaded on your own webspace, so if you wish to use this feature (which I highly recommend if you want more interested buyers to contact you), please store your picture in your webpage online account first.

That's all for now. More minor upgrades and updates will come along as time progresses.

By the way: two more weeks of work for me in my summer internship at ExxonMobil, then back to school at UCLA for my final quarter. I will definitely be missing the paycheck and the experience from working there (hopefully, maybe they'll make me a full time offer when I graduate *keeping fingers crossed). However, I won't miss having to wake up at 4am every weekday to get to work in the morning. :-)

I've been doing some major cleanup of the X-Men Links and Other Comics Links sections. Unless the page was very unique (that is, it features a theme that not many other pages have been created for), or unless the page has been updated within this last year, I've removed the link. Therefore, if you are the owner of one of the links that I've removed, and would like your site to be placed back on the list, go update your page first and then ask me. Why link to sites that aren't updated at all, or has information and/or pictures that people can find elsewhere? What I'm doing is saving the websurfer some time by not linking to outdated or un-unique site. Go do your part in updating the page, and then I'll re-add your link.

Here's a FAQ section in response to the emails I've been getting lately:

Did Wolverine get his adamantium back yet?

Yes, he did. It was revealed in Wolverine #145 how he got his adamantium back. Of course, for your purist, the first appearance of Wolverine known as Death would probably be considered by you to be the first issue where he gets his adamantium back. This would be in the 3-issue limited series Astounishing X-Men. How did he get his adamantium back? Basically, the short of it is that he fought Sabretooth for the right to be "endowed" with the adamantium. Apocalypse had returned, and wanted to make Sabretooth his first horseman: the horseman known as Death. This is why Sabretooth had an adamantium skeleton, as shown in Wolverine #126. Wolverine knew that if Sabretooth were ever to be allowed to be Death, the entire world could be in trouble because Sabretooth was a relentless killing machine. Believing that he would have a better chance in fighting the urge to kill than Sabretooth could, and believing that he would have a better chance of rebelling against Apocalypse than Sabretooth could, Wolverine fought Sabretooth for the right to become the horseman known as Death, and even without an adamantium skeleton, he was able to defeat Sabretooth. Apocalypse transfused the adamantium from Sabretooth's skeleton back into Wolverine's skeleton, and made Wolverine his first horseman. This is how Wolverine came to be known as Death for a brief period of time, as well as why he now has an adamantium skeleton again.

What's the deal with the extremely slow connection to the picture / fan art / sound galleries?

As I had stated before, my friend's internet account, where I had been storing these pictures, was closed because my friend decided not to continue with my new server. Then, compound the problem with my server being transferred to another server who actually enforces a 7MB-per-homepage rule. Suddenly, I'm about 20 megs short of webspace, and no place to store the stuff. I don't have my own domain name yet, which means no domain name hosting and no *paid* webpage storing account yet. Therefore, like most other people not paying for webspace hosting, I turned to the free webspace hosting. I chose Xoom because they offered unlimited webspace hosting in exchange for a small frame banner on the top. In my opinion, this small frame beats out the other "big-webspace" hosting sites like Fortunecity, 25megs.com, and others, who has a very obnoxiously huge banner that is displayed every time your page is loaded. This is why my site is now mirrored on Xoom and all 40+ MB of webpage material has been stored on Xoom. However, I guess everyone else has been applying to Xoom now, which has caused their server to slow down in terms of displaying material and in terms of uploading material to their server. This slow connection, from my experience, has been occuring sporatically. Therefore, you may encounter periods of time where the connection to Xoom is extremely slow or even non-existance, while other times (like right now), it connects extremely fast.

For the forseeable future, I don't plan on making any changes on moving my entire mirror (and picture storage) off of Xoom because what they offer is just too beneficial for this ever-growing webpage. And, until I graduate and have a full-time job with a income to support my needs (which, as you probably now know already, includes a car loan payment), I don't plan on getting my own domain name and paid webpage hosting services yet. At the earliest, this would occur next March, but anytime before that, the chances are very slim that I will be purchasing webpage hosting services.

Therefore, please bear with me in the connection speed that Xoom has on occasion when displaying the picture / fan art / sound galleries. I can tell that Xoom is trying very hard to alleviate this problem, and their services has been speeding up somewhat these past few weeks. Again, I apologize for this nuisance, but unless you want to help pay for my webpage hosting needs, I have to stick with what's at hand for the time being.

    So when's your next update?

I've had a lot of stuff go on the last 5 weeks. Work during the weekdays, having to spend time with family and friends on the weekend. Not to mention another camping trip about three weeks ago, and then my north rim Grand Canyon 4-day Labor Day holiday vacation trip being planned for this long weekend. I have been updating the page on my computer, with most everything except the current issue, rumor section, and some fan fictions, being updated already. Once I have these sections updated, I will be uploading these files to my webpage hosting servers, and that will probably happen sometime during this week. I do apologize for the lengthy delay, but sometimes, I do need a break to hang out with the people "in the real world", and for those long-time fans of this site, you do know that I am good for getting updates to the page and I won't be leaving you hanging any time soon.
