"All right you've got us here," said Logan, "So what is she?"

Jean and the Professor were silent for about a moment. "Well," Jean began, "She's a mutant that's for sure.

"But an engineered one" said the Professor chiming in, "Her DNA strands show that artificial mutated genes have been spliced onto her normal DNA structure."

Logan eyed him, "What the hell does that mean?"

Jean spoke up, "It means, Logan, that she is a genetically engineered mutant. Her DNA, in fact, matches yours."

Logan stopped, "Now I've heard everything."

Jean continued, "No you haven't," She said walking around the room, "She said she was engineered to kill you."

Logan looked at her, "I was wrong" he said, "So she's been looking for me for the past fifteen years?"

The Professor nodded, "So what do we do with her?" asked Cyclops.

The Professor spoke, "The best we can do is offer her a place where she would be accepted and safe."

"Yeah but what about" Logan stopped, "Oh I get it. You're going to try and show her there's more to life than killing me."

The Professor looked in his direction, "I don't think you're in any real danger Logan."

Logan huffed, "I don't like this."

"I want to try hypnotism on her. Maybe she might be able to shed some light on you and you're past Logan," said Jean before moving to a chair beside Cyclops.

"Is this really a good idea?" asked Storm, "I mean is she strong enough to take such a mental assault?"

"Storm's right" said Cyclops, "Are we willing to deal with her if she gets out-of-hand?"

"Oh I'll deal with her," said Logan.

"I'm sure we won't have to resort to that Logan," said the Professor, "Jean proceed with your plan." With that everyone got up and started to leave.

"Jean" said Logan. She stopped at the door, "Are you sure you know what you're doing?"

"Logan you make it sound like I don't. I'll be careful," said Jean reassuringly before she left the room. That left Logan alone. He walked over to a collection of monitors and watched as Jean rejoined Gracie.

"I see," said Gracie.

"It's perfectly safe," said Jean, "We'd like to know where you came from..."

Gracie cut her off, "You want to know why Logan and I are so similar," Jean nodded. "OK" said Gracie with a sigh.

Jean turned to her, "Relax" she said, "Close your eyes and listen to the sound of my voice"

Gracie followed Jean's instructions to the letter. Slowly, she let herself slip under Jean's control.

Pain. Searing pain. Shot through the shoulder. Shot. She'd been shot. It's Cold. Blood. Ice. Red Snow. Two men. Attack. Pain. Trunk. Dark. Night. Water. Heal. Pain. Blinding pain. Pass out. Cell. Doctors. Scientists. Tests. Train. Maneuvers. Kill. Kill. Kill. White snow. Hunt. Destroy.

Gracie woke with a start. "It's OK" she heard Jean say as she raced to her side.

"What was that?" asked Gracie, scared, "I saw, I saw"

Jean put her hand on her head, "It's OK. No one's going to hurt you."

Gracie sat up, "It was so real" she began, "I felt it. The pain"

Jean gave her a towel, "I think you should rest now."

Gracie shook her head, as if trying to shake the memories out, "I need to get out of here" she said shakily.

Jean grabbed her arm, "Gracie"

But she unsheathed her claws, "Get off me" she said in a deathly tone. Jean slowly released her and backed away, "I just want to be alone." Then she walked out of the medical unit.

Logan was so deep into his workout that he didn't hear the call from Jean. When he had gotten out of the shower he heard her voice on the comm., "Logan" she said, "Logan are you there?"

Logan pressed the button, "Yeah Jean"

She continued, "She's gone. I hypnotized her and she left."

Logan grew angry, "Why'd she leave?"

Jean hesitated, "She got spooked"

Logan ran his hand through his hair. The last thing he wanted to do was hunt for some piss-pour assassin, "Did you implant her?" asked Logan.

"Yes" said Jean.

"Then send Rogue after her" he then switched off the wall-comm.

As she walked she pulled off her bandages. Her wounds had healed and the cool air mixed with the sun felt good on her skin. In her mind thoughts, images and pictures of a time long-gone raced back through her mind. She had forgotten all about what she was. All that mattered now was what she had become. That was all she was taught to know. She also knew what she was supposed to do as well – kill Logan.

She found a large tree to sit under and tried to push back the images that flooded her mind. Control – she thought – keep Control. She closed her eyes. As she did she felt something tap her foot. Gracie opened her eyes to find herself looking at a ten year old child. She looked to see a soccer ball was at her feet. "A little help?" asked the boy. Gracie took the ball and passed it back to the boy. "Thanks" he said before re-joining his game. Gracie smiled. The children here didn't seem to fear her. No, they accepted her because they were like her.

"There you are" she heard someone say. Gracie turned to see Rogue coming towards her.

"I had to get out of there" she explained.

Rogue shrugged, "I totally understand."

Gracie got up, "I must've scared Jean. I'd better get back."

Rogue started walking beside her, "I'll walk with you," she said. Gracie nodded as if to say, 'Thank You'. Rogue caught it and smiled.
