He fell to the ground in the foyer, and cradled her protectively to him, rocking her back and forth.
The rest came in, much alarmed at the sight before them.
Storm: Wolverine?
She reached out for him, but he growled primally, clutching her tighter, not knowing who he was with, just needing to protect her. Realizing this, Jean had to use her telepathy to break through the barriers of his mind, to let Beast take her to be examined. Numbly, he let her go, and fell into a dazed trance.
He rejected almost violently any offers of comfort, not letting anyone touch him. He didn't hear a word they said until Beast came out ...
Wolverine: (brokenly) Hank?
Beast: She's gonna be okay, Logan. Couple of bruised ribs, mild concussion, a few lacerations and contusions ... She'll be fine ... She's even awake now ... Asking for you ...
That was all he needed. He broke into a dead run for the room where she lay.
Jubilee: (weakly) Hey.
Wolverine: (huskily) Hey, kiddo.
Jubilee: Um ... is it true?
Wolverine: Is what true?
Jubilee: What Sabertooth said ...
Wolverine: (darkly) What'd he say to you?
Jubilee: That you were my brother ... That he'd heard you and the Professor talking ...
Wolverine: (gently laying a hand on top of her head) Oh ... Yeah, sweetheart, that's true ... I was on my way to tell ya, when ...
Jubilee: (mournfully) When I screwed up ... again.
Wolverine: Don't ever let me hear that outta your mouth again! This wasn't your fault; ya hear me?
She nodded faintly, eyes welling with tears.
Wolverine: Jubes, if he'd'a killed ya ... I ... I ...
Jubilee: I love you ... .big brother.
Wolverine: (smiling gently) I love ya too, little sis ...
