"I'm able to morph into this form. In it, I have super strength, the ability to fly, animal-like senses, slash agility, and, of course, the claws out of my finger tips that I can retract into my hands from it's 3 and 1/2 inch maximum length. I also have an abnormal healing factor." He stretched his wings in and out and flexed once. Then he flashed his claws.
"Tell me, were you born with adamantium claws?" asked the Professor.
That question hit Ethan like a rock. He knew it was coming. Inside Ethan's head, his mind was racing. He debated half the way over here on to what he would say. He still didn't know. <I should trust him, he's helped more mutants than I can count. Trust him. Then again ... oh well here goes nothing.>
"No. About a year ago after my powers had manifested, I saw a young girl being dragged away by two Sentinels. Well, up until that point, I had kept my powers a secret to everyone but my mom. But I had to do something: it was the right thing to do, and besides, she was the most beautiful girl I'd ever seen. So I morphed. I ran for a few steps before taking off into the air, then flew, non-adamantium claws first, right through one of the Sentinels. I then landed on the other one's back, and literally ripped his head off. Well, the girl ran off after I took care of the first one and I never saw her again. Everything went exactly as it had before, for two weeks.
"Then on September 10th of last year it happened. I was walking back from school when I fell down. Suddenly I felt weak; I couldn't even get up, let alone morph. Last thing I remember is a guy walking toward me before I passed out. I was taken to a lab which I found out later was in Canada. For about a year they did experiments on me, training me to be a weapon. They called me Warrior X. That's where I got the tattoo. It seems that several years ago a relative of mine underwent some kind of experiment with adamantium but escaped after. They had been trying for years to re-do the process, but all the subjects died. I guess some of my powers are the same as his because they thought that I could handle it. Well, after a lot of tests they were a bit disappointed: I wasn't as well suited for it as they had hoped, but still better than any one else they had. So they decided to try it a bit at a time, hoping that way I would service.
"So on "The Day" I underwent the experiment. Never before had I felt so much pain. However, things did not go according to plan: while the lightweight adamantium did bond with the interior structure of the wings, the adamantium on the hands and feet on the exterior claws and the forearm only bonded to the flesh. Not quite what they wanted; however, still better than anything before, minus the original. It took awhile to recover from the surgery and to build my strength back up ... well, it was a long time to a super fast healer. Now you must understand from the day I was captured, I was planning my escape, watching, listening, learning. So finally about 5 days ago, I escaped. When I got ... home ... I found ..." Charles saw he was breaking up inside.
"You don't have to tell me right now," comforted Xavier.
"No, I want to." He was regaining his composure. <This is one tough kid who has been through a lot,> thought Xavier.
"When I got home my Mom was dead. She had died of a stroke. So I came here looking for a job."
"If you don't mind me asking what happened to your father?"
"No I don't mind Chuck."
"I would prefer you didn't call me that, call me Professor, Charles, Xavier, even just X, but please don't call me Chuck."
"Sorry Chuck. Oops sorry. Any way I don't know who my father is. My mom never even knew his name. Just his nick, Captain. I think he was C.I.A. or a cop or something. Then he just vanished. Never knew my mom was pregnant. We never saw him again. The only thing my mom ever told me was that he was kind, brave, honest, and the strongest man she ever meet.
"Ethan, Generation X will be here tomorrow and while you will stay here for a while I want you to think about joining them. Now, all Gen X is, is a school of the younger X-Men taught to control their powers by The White Queen and Banshee. It's a school. For now, however, the X-Men will train you, and when Wolverine gets better he will be your primary trainer. He is one of the greatest hand to hand combat fighters ever."
"O.K. I'll think about it. Oh and one more thing: are all the girls around here beautiful or is it just her?"
"Ha!" The Professor actually lightened up. "you'll just have to judge for yourself."
"Now if you don't mind I haven't slept in a real bed or taken a real shower in quite some time."
"Of course. ROGUE."
They had been in there for about an hour and Rogue was very curious as to what was going on. She was still surprised about Ethan's age. Maybe The Professor will have him join Generation X.
"Rouge?" The professor was calling her in.
"Yes?"
"Would you show Ethan his room?"
"Sure, follow me."
They left and Xavier was alone with his thoughts.
