Wolverine fought like he hadn't fought in a long time. The numeric difference caused a few hits to come on him, and his rage began to show. The gargoyles then began to take shape: Sabertooth, Roughhouse, Apocalypse, Deathstrike... they were all there. When he was almost berserk he remembered Elektra and calmed down a bit, just enough to remain a man, not an animal. He destroyed a couple of them and heard a blast behind him. Jubilee avoided an attack from behind, another one, but fell in a bad position, with the remaining two coming at her at one time. He jumped, trying to save her, but he would be too late. Then Clastor came out of nowhere and teleported her out of there. Except he didn't have energy to take them both out... Wolverine's cry echoed in the top of the mountain like pain put in sound. He saw the two approaching using the same tactic on him, but didn't move. Jubilee ran to him and did something he never expected: charged her powers so much she blew them both away, one with each hand, and then fainted. He woke her up.
- I-it's not over yet... - she said, very weakly.
- Shh, don't speak, girl... rest.
- I mean it. W-wolv, I...
- Jubi you're exhausted. Right now you shouldn't...
- L-look, I may n-not have a-another chance... I... l-love you...
- I love you too...
- N-not this way... I r-really...
- I know what you meant... just rest. We'll go down tomorrow.
She used what was left of her energy and they kissed. Jubilee slept with a smile. Logan ran to Clastor. He almost didn't breath. Desperate, Logan thought of one last move: opening the canteen, he gave him the holy water. Clastor woke up, also very weak. They decided to lie down and rest. Logan lied down thinking about what just happened between him and Jubilee. Well, Jubilee was twenty-two now, she could do whatever she wanted to. But that was not his concern, he was thinking about his life. His eternal life, that is. How could he ever allow himself to fall in love? He could never be happy ever after. Ever being the key word. He decided to talk with Clastor about it.
- < My friend, I knew what you felt for this girl the moment you arrived.>
- < What should I do? >
- < Whatever your heart tells you to. Isn't that what Daniella used to say? >
- < Daniella... You see? I don't want that to happen again. I don't want to lose another love to time... Why can't I live like other men? Their ever after have a meaning, since they die with the person they love... >
- < Logan, don't be stupid. Enjoy the present. The future is what you make of it... you, more than anyone else... should.. know... this...>
Clastor slept again, very weak. Logan stayed up staring at Jubilee, sleeping in his arms. He knew there was no point in hiding what he felt, since it wouldn't just go away. A part of him would always love her, like a part of him is still with Jean, Silver Fox, Mariko... why not go through with it? She was there, he was there, and they loved each other. He looked at the sky, and decided to enjoy while it lasted. When she woke up they started to go down, just as fast as they went up. Clastor could go by himself later, with his power.
They were almost too late. When they got to the village, it was under attack. Logan stepped in and demanded to fight Horaio.
- < You have nothing to do with this, gringo! > - said one of the soldiers.
- < That's right. Just get out of our way and maybe you'll live. > - said another.
- < Really? That's exactly what I was gonna say to you, bub! > - said wolverine, already extending the claws.
- < Stop! > - Clastor's voice sounded like thunder. - < he is one of us! And he earned the right to fight Horaio. >
The crowd started mumbling. "Look at the claws!" "Could he be...?" Logan walked at the two soldiers.
- < Now > - he said, - < You'll tell me where Horaio is. And this war stops now. >
- < Yes > - they bowed - < He is in the village. Sorry, Claws... >
- < I'm going there t'teach him a lesson, now. Behave yourselves. >
Logan walked away, with Clastor. Daniella was instructed to take care of Jubilee and vice-versa. As they walked, Clastor spoke.
- < Logan, you're about to face a very insane character. And very powerful one, too. >
- < Been there, done that... >
- < Listen, I know of your adventures with the X-men, but this is very different. You're alone, in his ground. >
- < I doubted myself for too long. Now I got someone to come back to, I can't afford to lose confidence. >
- < Logan, you're my oldest, and best, friend. I just want you to know what you're up against. He controls the power of the sun. Deadly thermal energy. Blinding lights. Extreme temperatures. >
- < Well, he just has to worry 'bout these. But he hasn't fought Sabretooth or Apocalypse. Or Onslaught. I have. I defeated them, with the X-men most times, true. He doesn't stand a chance. >
Clastor heard the confidence of his friend with special joy. He knew what Logan had been through, he knew Logan's fighting skills, he knew Logan was ready except for the lack of confidence he had been showing. Now he was truly ready.
- < He is the best fighter in these parts. One of you two is going to die. The other will be the best fighter there is. In this business... >
- < ...Second best don't cut it. I know. I've always been the best. >
