Jubilee could not believe it. She was so thrilled that she was chosen she forgot about the danger of the journey. Wolverine packed the things he could take and left. The climbing was very difficult, and at a certain high the air began to run short, and the cold got stronger. Wolverine and Jubilee climbed at a very strong pace. Clator had as his mutant abilities the power to teletransport, like Nightcrawler, except he was older and could only take himself. So, by that time, he should already be at the top of the mountain. As the cold wind blew and the snow got thicker, they could hear their hearts beating. Wolverine used his claws to climb, 'sticking' them in the snow. Jubilee used some climbing gear, and made stiles with her fireworks, by melting the snow. When they finished climbing the 6,768 meters (22,205 ft) to the top, two days had gone by. Their pace to climb was as inhuman as their powers. At the top, Clator awaited for them, as expected. Huascaran was once a volcano, now extinct. The snow storm made it even more difficult to see and breathe. Only now Wolverine realized: where would he find water in a place like this? Frozen water, there was plenty. But liquid, a fountain? They decided to camp. Jubilee's fireworks kept them warm inside the tent. Wolverine looked at his old friend.

- < When did you decide to create this test? >

- < They were necessary to prevent anyone from claming the leadership. Until Horaio came along, every other chief learned the teachings I gave. But we knew there would be the day when someone would go blind with power. >

- < You know I ain't gonna stay here after this. And I don't know anyone here. Who am I gonna make chief when I win? >

- < Don't count victory yet, my friend. Horaio is a very powerful mutant. He is not winning out of luck. >

- < Well, old friend, I'm the best there is at what I do. That rookie doesn't stand a chance. >

- < If that is true, and you do win, of course you know who to appoint leader. Or do you think I sent Daniella to you by chance? > - the old man grinned, and then coughed.

Wolverine looked at him. How could he still be alive? And, most important, for how much longer would he live? They slept, even in that cold. Wolverine woke up and decided to live them there as he searched the terrain. The snowstorm had almost stopped, and the visibility was much better. With the wind calmer, he listened, trying to capture any sound of flowing water. Nothing. Even without the blizzard, it was so cold he began to lose feeling of his hand, and his lips were as dry as a desert. He went back into the tent and had a drink of water. Jubilee woke up.

- Jubi, I just came back from the outside, and the blizzard has stopped. Even so, I could not find a trace of water...

- Well... we'll just have to look harder. It's here somewhere.

They went out again. For the first time, Jubilee got impatient. Angry, she started hitting a rock that was covered with ice. As the ice fell, it revealed the faces of two women looking at each other. Under the sculpture, some inscriptions said something about life and death. Clastor appeared by their side.

- Well, here we are. This is Jayiia, goddess of life. She bears the answer.

- Which answer? - asked Jubilee.

- The holy fountain! - Logan's eyes glowed.

- What? I don't get it! - Jubilee looked at both of them.

- If I'm worthy, Jubi, Jayiia will give me water. Life.

- And if you're not? - she asked, innocently.

- Sovaya will give him death! - said Clastor.

- Wolvi, I don't think it's such a good idea...

But he wasn't listening anymore. The two heads had just one body, with hands extended. He held the statue's hand. It began to heat. Jayiia's face seemed almost alive. Jubilee and Clastor listened to Wolverine climbing up to get face to face with the statue. Suddenly from the statue's mouth began pouring water, liquid, and warm. Jubilee could not believe her eyes. "Certainly some kind of engine heating the water" - she thought and looked to the statue, trying to find out where could such an engine fit. Nowhere she looked had enough space for any known engine with enough power to heat that much water. "Certainly..." But she couldn't finish her line of thought, for six stone gargoyles rose behind them. Wolverine pushed her just in time to avoid a hit in her head that she wouldn't forget so soon. He was hit instead. The sound of his own rib breaking only made Wolverine mad. He got up and joined Jubilee, who was already fighting the gargoyles. They were as big and as strong as the Juggernaut. Wolverine and Jubilee only prayed that they weren't as resistant. As he destroyed, finally, one of the gargoyles, Wolverine looked at Jubilee. She fought like an amazon, and she had learned to use her powers in combat very well. The distraction cost him dearly: from behind, he got hit in the head. For a moment it all darkened, but the voice of both Clastor and Jubilee calling him woke him up in the exact moment one of the gargoyles tried to finish him. He realized they wouldn't stop until they were dead. He heard a blast, as Jubilee destroyed another one.

- What, Wolvi, getting soft with age? - she yelled at him.

- Honey, I'm just warming up...
