"What do you think Professor?" Scott asked after Jean finished explaining to him Jesse and Katherine's situation.
"I'll get the other Xmen, they should hear this. I think that you should help them, but the final decision is up to the team. Don't worry though. You have nothing to fear from these two. They don't have any evil intentions. The man is protective and the girl is just, wel l... soft."
Jean and Scott looked at him curiously, but said nothing.
[ Xmen. Report to the War Room. ]
"Jean, since they know you, you should be the one to contact Jesse and Katherine."
"Yes, Professor." [ Jesse, bring Katherine, come here, to the War Room. ]
[ Katherine's asleep. ]
[ Well, perhaps it's better. The story will have to be told again and if you don't want her to hear then it's better that she stay in the room. ]
[ Good, she was exhausted. So where is the War Room? ]
[ Here, follow these ] Jean sent him telepathic directions to the War Room.
Once everyone was present and the story had been told, the Xmen instantly agreed to help them out. Afterwards Jean went to use Cerebro to attempt and locate Allison, Katherine's daughter. The rest of the group split up, leaving to do various things around the house and to attend to their own business. It was a Saturday, a free day, and the Xmen were taking advantage of it.
Jesse sat in the kitchen with Wolverine eating lunch.
"Do you think she'll be able to find her?" Jesse asked Logan between bites.
Logan nodded, "If anyone can find her, Jeanie will."
Jesse sighed, "Then all we have to do is find a way to get her."
Wolverine grinned menacingly, "I'm sure we'll find a way."
[ Jesse?! ]
"Shit." Jesse muttered softly.
"What?" Logan asked.
[ Jesse!??! ]
[ It's okay Little Kat. I'm just in the kitchen. Calm down, use your empathy, you'll be able to find me. ]
[ Jesse? ]
[ Katherine, calm down. Kat? Kaa-aaat? ]
[ I found ... ] "You." She said, smiling softly as she entered the kitchen.
Jesse smiled affectionately, "Obviously."
Wolverine looked at them confused, "You lost me at shit, bud."
Jesse chuckled, "Never mind, Logan."
Logan shrugged, "Hello Katie, enjoy your nap?"
Katherine tilted her head and looked at him strangely, then shrugged and smiled. No one except for Jesse had ever used that endearment, Katie, for her, she didn't have any friends to say such things to her. It was nice. She nodded.
Katherine took a seat next to Jesse, pulling her knees up to her chest and resting her chin on her knees, and looked hungrily at his plate. Jesse smiled at her, "Do you want the rest Kat?" He asked her. She blushed then nodded.
He shook his head and passed her his plate. She devoured the sandwich, her eyes never leaving Logan's hands.
Jesse and Logan continued to talk but she paid it little attention; she could barely hear it anyway. She was focusing more on Logan's hands then anything. She watched as he struck the match, lit the cigarette. She watched him put it up to his lips and inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale. All the intricate little muscles and all the small, fine, graceful movements intrigued her. She never knew anyone so strong and foreboding who moved with such grace.
[ He's beautiful, huh, Jesse. ] She remarked softly.
Jesse burst out laughing.
"What?" Logan asked curiously.
Jesse smiled and looked at Katherine who's eyes seemed to be glued to Logans hands. She wasn't even paying attention to anything else, "Katie thinks you're beautiful."
Logan's eyebrows rose and Jesse could almost make out a blush, "I've been called a lot o' things in my life, but I don't believe 'Beautiful' has ever been one of 'em."
"Katherine tends to find beauty in the strangest things." Jesse said, then added, "No offense."
Logan chuckled, "None taken. If she thinks I'm beautiful and graceful, wait till she meets Cajun."
"Gambit? The guy with the weird eyes and the trench coat?"
"Yep. He used to be a thief, and girls tend to find him beautiful, I suppose, among other things. But then he often takes a similar liking to them."
Jesse frowned, "I'm not so sure I like the sound of anyone taking any interest in Katherine, least of all someone who'd probably end up hurting her. She's too ... too ... delicate."
Logan nodded absently, and looked over at Katherine, who continued to stare at his hands, he wasn't sure he liked the sound of anyone taking any interest in her either, and that bothered him. He waved his hand to get her attention, "Hey Kate."
Katherine shook her head and looked up at him, then blushed. It only added to her beauty and if anyone in the room was beautiful, Logan decided, it was her.
"Hmm?" She said in her soft, little voice, "Sorry, I didn't mean to ... stare."
"It's okay."
"Jesse, are they going to help us find Allison?" She asked, as if the thought just suddenly came to her.
"Yeah, Little Kat, don't worry."
"I can't worry Jesse." She said, her voice, though soft, was hard as steal. "I can't even think about it."
Jesse nodded, "I know Little One, I know."
Logan sighed, "Why not?" He asked.
Katherine looked up at him, her eyes full of sorrow then they were blank. "Because if I worry about it, or think about it, or anything, my empathy will wreak havoc on the whole house, it'll go out of control, so it's best if I just displace it from my mind, try not to think about my little angel." She whispered her eyes turning dewey with tears.
[ Shh ... Katherine, it's okay ... ]
Abruptly the tears were gone and under the table Katherine patted Jesse's knee affectionately [ I don't know what I'd do without you. ]
Logan glanced up as Remy and Rogue entered the kitchen, "Ah told ya Cajun, no one in this house wants ya ta cook, it's a rule, so hush up your mouth sugah."
"Aw come on chere, dis place could use a good Cajun meal non?"
Rogue shook her head and exasperated, "No Gambit, that's one thing this house does not need." She looked over to Logan, Jesse, and Katherine, "Hi y'all."
"Hey. This is Katherine, the girl that came with Jesse."
Katherine had gone back to staring at Logan, she had moved up to his shoulders however, and she didn't pay much attention to Rogue and Gambit.
"Hello Katherine, I'm Rogue."
[ Kat, someone's talking to you ] Katherine's head snapped up. She smiled softly, "Hello," She said, then her eyes flicked back to Logan.
Rogue's eyebrows rose and she looked at Logan curiously, he merely shrugged, a movement that seemed to reinforce Katherine's attention on his shoulders.
"'Ello petite, de name's Gambit, it be a pleasure to meet you." Having gained her attention, Gambit took her hand and place a kiss on its back.
She blushed softly and smiled, causing Jesse to frown.
"Hello, I'm Katherine." She looked up at his strange red eyes, her attention overtaken by their presence. Her eyebrows drew together, "Your eyes." She said softly.
"What about dem?"
Katherine shook her head, "They're ... they're lovely."
"So are you petite." Gambit said smiling his smile. By then, everyone in the room, save Gambit and Katherine, were frowning.
"Thank you."
[ Jesse, what does petite mean? ] Katherine asked bewildered.
Jesse chuckled. [ I believe it means little. ]
[ Oh ]
"Did ah miss something?" Rogue asked curiously at Jesse's chuckle.
"No, Nevermind."
[ What language is that? ]
[ French, I guess. ]
[ Oh. What about Rogue, what language is she speaking? ]
[ It's English Kat, it just has a southern accent. ]
[ Oh, okay. Can I learn to speak French? ]
[ Kat, first you gotta learn how to talk. ]
"I can talk." Katherine said, slightly huffy, out loud.
"Apparently." Logan said, no one knowing why she had made the sudden outburst, if you could call that an outburst, more like a small trickle of sound, "But why are you tellin' us?"
"I, uh, nothing." Katherine said, looking down at the table. Deciding that the table was more interesting then anything else, and it didn't take offense or get the wrong idea, Katherine decided to stare at it. She couldn't help but stare at things. Each little part of the smallest most insignificant things amazed her. The grain in the wood, the way the sun catches in hair or glints of metal, colors, Logan ... Katherine smiled at the thought and decided to stare at him some more. Not that he was insignificant, on the contrary, but he was certainly amazing, to her anyway.
