Part Eleven
Wolverine and Cadie stood back to back, both ready
to fight. To an outsider, it would have seemed a hopeless battle; they
were completely surrounded by armed guards. However, to anyone who had
met Wolverine, the odds seemed about even.
Outwardly he remained calm, but Cadie could feel him
tensing against her back. She was about to go on the offensive when he
beat her to it. "Tear em up!!!" he bellowed as he launched himself forward.
She snapped her head down and brought her arms up,
breaking one attacker's arm along the way; then wheeling quickly she
grabbed another man by the hair and forced him to look at her. His
scream echoed across the wide lawn and she dropped him, moving for the
next man. She turned and saw Wolverine being slowly but surely
outmassed by sheer numbers and moved toward him, so intent on reaching
him that she never heard the gunshot that took her down.
"You fool," Scalphunter snarled. "He wants them alive and in one piece!"
Belladonna's voice was calm, soothing. "Don' worry,
mon ami," she said as she examined Arcadia thoroughly. "She is not
hurt, hehn? Only asleep." She walked slowly toward Wolverine, who was
twisting in the grip of his captors, an inhibitor collar already in
place around his neck. "And you, mon ami, will be joining her, non? Hold him."
He almost broke free, but they were too strong.
*Damn, shoulda known something like this was gonna happen. Never would
have expected Marauders though.* "So where's Sinister, eh Belladonna?
You tyin in with him now? Bet that makes your Guild real happy."
She backhanded him hard. "My Guild is not your
business, hehn? What I do tonight will bring the Assassin's Guild
back to power." She leaned close to him and he felt the prick of a
needle in his arm. "And you fools won' be able to stop it. Ever."
His world went black.
