Chapter 3
If I learned anything back in my days with Master Ogun,
it was to never let my guard down. An' I never do. So, as the oxygen
drained from my invisible jail, I used an ol' trick that Ogun taught
me.
Closin' my eyes, I instantly cleared my mind, emptyin'
it of all thought--a practive that took me years to master. As my mind
cleared, I unconciously entered a trance, slowin' all the many systems
of my body, cuttin' my blood flow, my digestion, my oxygen
intake. As my body went limp, apparently unconsious, my mind's eye
opened into the odd awareness of the Zen trance.
My mind, slowed to the brink of nothingness, could only
pick up images very slowly, no more than one every five or six
minutes. Images and sensations came in flashes, slowly but surely.
First came a liftin' sensation: someone was pickin' me up. A large
thump followed, as my limp body slammed into a metallic floor. Four or
five more flashes followed--nothin' more than a curved ceilin'. An
airplane. The final flash is what brought me out of my trance. It was
a face: the face of a man I never though I'd see again. I let the
trance go.
"Konnichi wa, Logan-san."
"Taro." A Japanese man, maybe 5-6, stood before me. I'd
'ave known him from anywhere, after everything he did, I could never
forget. But his look was completely different, he was decked out in
armor, looking somethin' like the traditional Japanese samurai garb,
but more hi-tech. Kinda a cross 'tween Akira Kurosawa and Tony Stark.
"Yes, Logan-san. Once I was the man you knew as Taro
Tachibana. But I ceased to be Tachiban a long time ago. Now I am only Bishamon."
"The Japanese god of war."
"Yes. We were both lost, but now are found. As Taro
Tachibana fell, so did Bishamon. Once Bishamon was great and powerful,
ruling all of Nippon. But the shining country was foolhardy.
They ended their conquest letting the United States take power over
them. But Tachibana and Bishamon are now one, and Japan will be mine."
I unsheathed my claws, and said, "Ya haven't changed,
Taro. An' just like last time, I'll take ya down."
As I lept, once again I was struck down, this time by a
serin' pain coursin' through my skull. As the memories flooded my
mind, Bishamon began to laugh.
