She had moved around the edge of the grounds, trying to
think of a way in. She didn't want to announce herself quite yet.
Behind the complex was a fairly large forest; becoming the cat again,
she climbed atop one of the tall trees to get a look. The sight was
beautiful: the large estate was well groomed despite the wrecked
building. From the tree she could see that much was being rebuilt.
*Well, brother, you sure have found a nice place to
hide yourself -- obviously not keeping out of trouble, by the looks of
it.* She saw movement through the trees close by and decided to check
it out. Jumping down from the branches she kept to the shadows,
letting her black fur melt into the darkness. The wind blew towards
her face *A woman by the smell of her.* She crept closer. The woman
had begun talking to herself...
"Ain't this a fine mess ah got myself in. Ah should
have never came back. Now ah got two stubborn-headed men fightin' over
me. They don't even seem ta care how ah feel at all," the woman
muttered as she walked slowly through the forest.
*Hmmm...sounds like this might be the woman Remy was
talking about...* The wind shifted directions, blowing from behind her
with a familiar scent. *So I got a follower: my brother, trying to
track me. Well, dear brother, let's see how good you've become.*
With that thought she burst from the shadows, jumping
clear over the woman she'd been watching. She disappeared again into
the shadowed trees. What she had missed was the woman contacting
others in the building about a panther roaming around the forest.
She sped through the forest at an astonishing speed,
even for a large feline, stopping to retrace her tracks and start off
again. She took to the trees occasionally to try and confuse her
follower. Then she stopped and waited. She was in a large clearing,
far from the compound. She didn't want her reunion interrupted.
She didn't have to wait long, however. The man soon
stepped slowly out of the trees. She stared at him for a moment, a
deep-throated snarl coming from her. Then, she became herself again, a
woman starting coldly at the brother she hadn't seen in decades. He
looked surprised for a moment but soon a deep angry expression came on
his face.
"What? Not pleased to see me, Logan? And after all
these years. Are you surprised that I have finally tracked you down?"
Her smile was vicious and cold.
"I don't know who you are, lady, but I suggest you
leave real soon, before I send you away in pieces." His voice was
deep, his claws posed to attack.
She moved to circle around him, the twisted smile still
on her face. "What, no hug? No 'how I've missed you'? Surely you know
who I am. Maybe I need to remind you."
"You wanna dance, lady, fine with me."
He lunged at her, but she had expected it. She moved
and turned to face him once again. "Your fury always got the better of
you, Logan -- you never could beat me!" She became the panther again,
jumping at him, her claws extended. She ripped open his chest and arm,
moving quickly out of his reach.
"Bad move, pussycat, makin' me angry..." He lunged at
her again and was given a few more deep gashes, only this time she
didn't come out so clean. He'd torn into her left shoulder pretty
deep. She could already feel the itching of the gash healing itself.
"Well done, Logan. Beginning to feel like old times yet?" She smiled,
moving, as he tried to swipe her again.
Not far off, a small group was closing in on the fight.
"Couldn't detect her in that cat form, her mistake was changing to a
form we could detect. What do you think, Jean?" the man asked one of
the members of his group.
"All I sense is anger, Scott, from both the woman and
Wolverine." She looked worried. "If we don't get out there, they might
just kill each other."
"All right, Remy, Beast, you two come with us. Let's
see what the hell's going on out there," Scott told them as he headed
out.
Logan was pretty cut up at the point, but so was she.
He had style, she gave him that. "I see you've learned to fight since
we've been apart, but don't worry...so have I," she said with a dark
laugh.
"I don't know how you think you know me, lady, but obviously not good enough to know I
don't quit!" he snarled back at her.
"Logan, I'm hurt. You can't really think I believe you
don't know me? I've wasted years trying to find you -- now it's time
for you to pay me back for those years." She used a fraction of her
power to bring out her cat-like claws, replacing her human
fingernails. She lunged again, ripping at his face; he threw her
off, turning to counterattack, but she had already moved away.
"I really expected more from you. Not having me to
train with has made you slow...brother," she said with contempt.
He stopped dead, her words sinking in. "Brother?" he
said with shock. "You've got to be kidding. I don't know what you're
trying to pull here, but I sure as hell don't like it!" he snapped
back at her.
"You really expect me to believe you don't know who I
am?" she snarled through her clenched teeth.
"It is quite possible, miss, that he does not
remember," the large blue man spoke up.
She turned to see the group behind her -- Logan tried
to take the opportunity to attack but failed. She had him on the
ground, her feline claws inches away from slicing his jugular. Then
she was thrown off, hit by some form of energy blast.
"Please, both of you, stop!" Jean said, stepping in
front of Logan. "Wolverine, what is going on here?"
"Why don't you ask her?" he snarled in a low voice.
"Chere, dis is your long-lost brother?" Gambit asked,
walking up to her and helping her off the ground.
"Yes, that's my brother, the one I've spent a lifetime
searching for since the day he was kidnapped. The one who doesn't
seem to have given his twin sister a second thought in all this time."
